MORE ABOUT DARE TO CARE:

VISION: A hunger-free Kentuckiana

MISSION: Lead our community to feed the hungry and conquer the cycle of need

FACILITIES: 55,000 square foot warehouse equipped to store and inventory food at the highest commercial food safety standards. Storage area includes 100,000 cubic foot freezer and 72,000 cubic foot cooler. 5,000 square foot commercial kitchen equipped to produce over 1,000 meals daily for Kids Cafe.

FLEET: 12 transport trucks and vans
FOOD: Dare to Care procured and distributed 16.5 million pounds of food last year, including more than 5.5 million pounds of fresh produce, the equivalent of 13 million meals.

NETWORK: Food is distributed through a network of over 300 independent food pantries, emergency kitchens, and shelters.
PROGRAMS: Dare to Care operates programs targeting the most vulnerable in our community: Kids Cafe (supported by the Dare to Care Community Kitchen), Backpack Buddy, Mobile Pantry, and Patrol Against Hunger.

NEED: One in six individuals in our community suffers food hardship. Over 192,000 people received food assistance from Dare to Care last year, over 75,000 of whom were children.

SERVICE AREA: To avoid duplication of services, Dare to Care belongs to a network of 200 other food banks across the country called Feeding America. Dare to Care serves the following Kentucky counties: Jefferson, Bullitt, Spencer, Shelby, Henry, Oldham, Trimble, and Carroll; and the following Indiana counties: Floyd, Clark, Harrison, Crawford, and Washington.

VOLUNTEERS: Over 2,000 volunteers support the food bank’s mission each year, contributing over 25,000 hours.

SUPPORT: Dare to Care’s funding support comes from the community: individuals, businesses, and foundations.
